Everything We Know About Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton's Friendship

As far as #squads go, Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton's girl group is as cool as they come. In between all their press events and political engagements, we can totally picture them bonding at palace sleepovers over viewings of The Princess Diaries and The Princess Bride. But this friendship isn't all in our minds. The Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry's soon-to-be bride are IRL friends, and we're dying for an invite to their haute hangouts almost as much as we'd like to score a spot on the royal wedding guest list.

Soon after her engagement to Prince Harry, Meghan Markle first opened up on her relationship with Kate Middleton during her BBC interview with her groom. "William was longing to meet her and so was Catherine," Harry began, explaining that they've all managed to get together "quite a few times now and Catherine has been absolutely," as Meghan injected, "She's been wonderful."

Meghan also added, "The family has been great, and over the past year and a half we've just had a really nice time getting to know them and progressively helping me feel a part of not just the institution but also part of the family, which has been really, really special."

A source shared with E! News that Meghan and Kate's first meeting took place in January 2017. "Kate was delighted to finally get to meet the woman that had Harry smiling so much," said the insider. That shouldn't come as much as a surprise considering the special friendship Kate has been known to have with her brother-in-law. "When she and William got engaged, Harry called her the big sister he never had," Newsweek previously reported. "He often pops into their apartment at Kensington Palace, where she cooks him a meal-roast chicken is reportedly a particular favorite." Considering that many months later, Harry popped the question over a roast chicken dinner with Meghan, we think Meghan could've gotten the hot tip from her sister-in-law!

Now that Meghan and Harry are set to wed, Kate is reportedly lending even more of her royal expertise to her future sister-in-law. "Very early on she made it clear that should Meghan ever need something, or just want to chat, she shouldn't hesitate to get in touch," the E! News insider continued. "Kate knows how difficult it is navigating one's way through this very different world. And it was important to Harry that Meghan and Kate got to know each other, as she has experienced many of the challenges Meghan now faces." That is, the constant pressure of the press and living under the paparazzi's lenses-a foreign concept to normies like us (and Meghan), and a hard adjustment to make.

"It's becoming very clear within the family that William, Catherine, Harry and Meghan are the future of the royal family so everything rests on making sure Meghan eases naturally into her role. That's a big priority for everyone," the source explained. "Catherine did it and so they know it's possible for an outsider, without any prior interactions with the establishment, to integrate well. Catherine is very aware that Meghan will need a friend alongside her while she gets used to the way things are done around here."

Kate and Meghan's special relationship closely mirrors the mentorship that Prince Harry's late mother, Princess Diana, kindled with Sarah, Duchess of York when Sarah married Diana's former brother-in-law Prince Andrew, ABC News reports. And that relationship is presumed to only grow stronger after May 19's royal wedding. The soon-to-be newlyweds are expected to move right next door to William and Kate on the Kensington Palace grounds.

We predict plenty of coffee tea dates in Meghan and Kate's future!
